American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation is the professional process of facilitating communication between individuals who use ASL and those who use a spoken language. This service ensures full access, engagement, and participation for all parties, regardless of their primary language. TKIS proudly offers both on-site and virtual ASL interpretation services to meet a wide range of accessibility needs.

On-site ASL interpretation:

This is when an ASL Interpreter is physically present in the same location as the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing/DeafBlind individual. 

Key Features:

• Face-to-face interaction - helpful for picking up non-verbal cues

• Best for complex settings like medical appointments, large group settings, or live events

• More personal - builds trust and connection

Virtual ASL interpretation:

This happens via a video platform (like Zoom, Teams, or a dedicated VRI service), where the interpreter joins the conversation remotely.

Key Features:

• Remote and flexible - can be accessed quickly, often on-demand

• Useful in emergencies or when in-person interpreters are not available

• Requires reliable internet and a good-quality camera set-up

Post-production interpretation:

This is ideal for asynchronous or pre-recorded content, where an interpreter listens to the audio and either produces a recorded ASL interpretation or provides a voice-over to accompany a signed video.
